Pivotal names Savvis to Cloud Foundry Community Advisory Board

Pivotal has named Savvis, a CenturyLink company, to the Cloud Foundry™ advisory board to help guide the Cloud Foundry ecosystem as it fosters continued open innovation and community growth.

Following Pivotal’s recent commitment from IBM to join Cloud Foundry’s advisory board and be a community contributor and CenturyLink’s June addition of fast-growing PaaS provider AppFog to its Savvis cloud portfolio, the addition of Savvis to the Cloud Foundry advisory board will enable even more developers and organizations to build the next generation of applications on the cloud.

“Cloud Foundry is fast becoming the preeminent open source cloud-independent Platform-as-a-Service,” said Paul Maritz, chief executive officer, Pivotal. “We are excited to expand our community advisory board today through the addition of Savvis and look forward to the collaboration ahead.”
In addition to joining the advisory board, Savvis has signed the Cloud Foundry community contributor license agreement (CCLA), which signifies its commitment to:
· Expand contributions to the open source Cloud Foundry community through the addition of new features and active participation on design documents, reports, bug fixes and other enhancements;
· Deepen the relationship between Cloud Foundry and AppFog via the Cloud Foundry Dojo program, a unique learning experience that brings Savvis’ AppFog developers shoulder-to-shoulder with Pivotal’s Cloud Foundry engineering team to master the core technology and contribute directly to the codebase;
· Serve as a platinum sponsor of Pivotal’s first-ever Platform: The Cloud Foundry Conference, to be held on Sept. 8 and 9 in Santa Clara, Calif. For more information, visit www.platformcf.com.

“AppFog has been an active participant in the Cloud Foundry ecosystem since its inception,” said Lucas Carlson, the founder of AppFog who currently serves as vice president of cloud evangelism at Savvis. “Now as part of CenturyLink, we have an exciting opportunity to expand our participation in the Cloud Foundry ecosystem while promoting the adoption of open-source standards to a wider developer base.”

“We see strong interest among our clients for private PaaS solutions and believe that Cloud Foundry offers a unique, open-source solution to meet these requirements,” said Andrew Higginbotham, chief technology officer at Savvis. “We look forward to being a contributor and strategic adviser for Cloud Foundry so we can help shape the direction of this open-source PaaS initiative for the benefit of the community and our clients.”
