Violin Memory introduces Symphony Management Version 2.0

Violin Memory, Inc., has announced Violin Symphony management software version 2.0, which now enables simplified management of both Violin Memory Arrays and Velocity PCIe Memory Cards from a single interface. With customised health monitoring, real-time analytics and advanced reporting, Symphony 2.0 delivers predictive, automated and centralised management of an end user’s entire Violin environment.

“Symphony sets the benchmark for what it means to deliver simplicity of management and control at the tip of your fingers,” said Narayan Venkat, vice president of products at Violin Memory. “The latest version of Symphony makes it even easier to consolidate data centres and manage mission-critical workloads on Violin’s persistent memory environment.”

Symphony was designed with a proactive vs. reactive design principle, providing data centre administrators knowledge and information before there are issues or concerns within the storage environment. With support for features like Smart Groups, Comparative Analysis and Granular Reporting presented through a unique and intuitive graphical interface, Symphony provides ease of use regardless of the size of deployment. The dashboards offered can be fully customised at various levels to provide an individual user experience, resulting in faster decision-making and optimal deployment scenarios. Combining these features and customisations with the proactive design principle of Symphony 2.0, end users are offered full control of their Violin Memory ecosystem from the Velocity Cards to the Memory Arrays.

In addition to Symphony Management Software 2.0, the Violin 6224 Flash Memory Array, the second offering on the 19nm process technology with 24 terabytes of raw capacity, is now available. Violin is also announcing the availability of the Violin Memory Operating System (vMOS) version 6.3 which extends non-disruptive upgrade (NDU) capability to the flash chip level. This is a unique offering compared to SSD-based flash arrays which are limited in scope to the controllers above the SSDs.


With these new releases, Violin continues on its mission to deliver significant economic impact to the data centre and enable a simpler path to an all memory based data centre.
