BridgeHead introduces RAPid™ approach to healthcare application recovery

Integrates backup and archive with single data repository to ensure optimised protection and recovery for all hospital data.

BridgeHead Software has announced BridgeHead RAPid™ (Rapid Application Protection), which facilitates the use of multiple protection strategies in a single seamless HDM Solution to ensure optimised protection and recovery of hospital applications. BridgeHead RAPid integrates both backup and archive with a central repository for meta-data, business and clinical data as well as healthcare-specific application awareness to ensure that hospitals can quickly bring back large amounts of data.


Leveraging BridgeHead BLAST (Backup Leveraging Advanced Storage Technology), BridgeHead RAPid enables hospitals to restore an application’s complete underlying database and then enough of its file data to quickly get the application back up and running. To streamline the data protection process, RAPid deploys both single instancing for archive at the file level and deduplications for backup at the block level. BridgeHead RAPid promises to help hospitals:


· Optimise RPO and RTO for 99.9% of their applications and data
· Reduce storage and network requirements with single instancing for reduction of application objects, combined with deduplication for reduction of backup data
· Provide a better platform for recovery, both in terms of speed, ease of use and reduced data loss.


“One of our goals was to try and reduce the time it was taking to fully protect some of our critical applications. Our email server, for example, was taking around 48 hours to fully back up,” said Simon Joyce, Network Services Manager, City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. “By implementing BridgeHead’s RAPid, we were able to leverage both archiving and backup approaches to reduce the overall size of our applications. This allowed us to perform quicker, more frequent backups of our systems, while protecting the application’s objects by taking multiple copies while writing to the archive. This has dramatically improved efficiency in the way we safeguard our applications, whilst giving us the comfort to know our systems and data are fully protected and recoverable in the event of an outage, corruption, deletion or disaster.”
