Avira recommends PRIVATE WiFi

Here, one mobile security firm has started recommending the complementary services of another mobile security firm in a slightly different twist on the theme of collaboration

This may not exactly be cloud services related, but it is an example of where the underlying trend towards collaboration can lead. It is also an example of how the mobile communications community is leading the way in developing not only technologies, but how those technologies are presented to the marketplace.

Here, one mobile security specialist operation, Avira, has started to recommend a product from another developer, Private Communications Corporation, via the `Recommendations’ tab on its own website.

That product is PRIVATE WiFi, an app for iOS users, which encrypts the WiFi signal in public hotspots to offer privacy to users who want additional protection for personal and sensitive information.

Given the current prevalence of Apple iPhones and iPads as the mobile client of choice for many business users, this ability to selectively encrypt communications could play an important role in the security planning of some companies, and in particular SMBs with limited budgets.

Private Communications Corporation is a US-based security technology company that protects personal data and information online. PRIVATE WiFi, the company’s flagship software product, encrypts all computer data across unencrypted WiFi networks, ensuring online privacy for those without access to virtual private networks (VPNs).

With the encryption, everything users do via that public hotspot is private, including emails, online banking, photos, social networking, and all other activity.

Avira’s objective is to build the best security technologies in the world so that customers can use the Internet without fear. Today, the company offers a full suite of completely free security applications for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android. It also offers premium security products for customers who want extra features and support services.

“Avira takes its job providing security for millions of users worldwide very seriously, and we also offer our recommendations very seriously as well. We feel that PRIVATE WiFi offers users a comprehensive way to keep their personal information and surfing habits private while using a public WiFi location,” said Lance Jacobs, North America’s General Manager for Avira. “This is the first app that Avira has publicly recommended, and there will be more recommendations in the months to come with apps that live up to our tough standards.”
