Smartoptics’ Fibre Channel distance extension solutions approved by EMC

Smartoptics says that its Fibre Channel distance extension solutions have been approved by EMC.

A range of Smartoptics distance extension solutions have undergone independent E-Labs testing by EMC and have been verified as supported with EMC-based Storage Area Networking (SAN) infrastructure equipment. The testing initiative was designed to foster interoperability in a multi-vendor environment and simplify the RPQ process. The products tested offer a sensible and lower cost alternative to traditional transponder based DWDM solutions.

The solutions approved by EMC include Smartoptics range of active and embedded C/DWDM systems as well as its innovative M-Series semi-active WDM platform. The M-Series platform is a unique approach to embedded networking that combines the simplicity and cost effectiveness of a passive mux/demux with the features of a traditional DWDM system. Smartoptics unique range of distance extension solutions enable users to generate enormous cost savings over competing DWDM transporting methods which are prohibitively complicated and expensive. Companies can now move large volumes of data between sites up to 100km apart with truly plug and play solutions whilst simultaneously reducing capital and operational expenditure.

Sean Davies, Sales Director at Smartoptics said, ” We are delighted to have our distance extension solutions approved by EMC. This approval enables customers to connect their data centres in a cost efficient manner with no compromise on quality of service or bandwidth. It also removes the lengthy Request for Product Qualification (RPQ) process required when an unsupported configuration is needed as part of a solution. ”
