Powles’ appointment coincides with a global Druva initiative to continue scaling its business, aided in part by a $25 millionSeries D funding round announced in August. Over the past ten months the company’s enterprise customer base surged from 2,100 to 3,000 in 76 countries, with more than 2.8 million devices now protected by inSync. This growth is being fuelled by the proliferation of end user devices, a rise in workforce mobility, and a realization that legacy, server-based backup solutions lack both the features and performance required to manage endpoint data.
Powles’ experience includes 15 years focused on the backup and archiving market. Prior to joining Druva, he was Managing Director for UK and Ireland at backup and data recovery software provider Acronis. He previously held senior sales and management roles at Oracle, VERITAS/Symantec, Commvault and Informatica, and grew software businesses for both start-ups and major global corporations across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He is based in London.
“Gaining control over enterprise information on employee devices is becoming a critical IT priority that is not being adequately addressed by traditional backup vendors. Druva was among the first to recognize this need and has the most mature endpoint data protection andgovernance solution on the market,” Powles said. “Virtually every organization needs to add this kind of product to its infrastructure, and that gives me a nearly unlimited opportunity to help Druva grow its business.”
“Endpoint data backup is an emerging market in EMEA and elsewhere. Companies need it, but they typically don’t know how to go about it, and they don’t realize that there’s more to protecting the data on employee devices than backup,” said Jaspreet Singh, Druva founder and CEO. “Rick’s deep experience with server backup and his understanding of the EMEA market make him the ideal candidate to drive our business in the region, expand our channel and field operations, and ensure that Druva gains and retains the leading market share in the space.”
Druva’s inSync platform uniquely integrates automated endpoint backup, data loss prevention, IT-managed filesharing, and data governance tools. Proprietary Druva technology eliminatesslow device performance associated with legacy server backup solutions, creating and continually updating a centralized repository of backed-up files. That repository enables rapid data recovery for lost or stolen devices, allows remote user access to any file or folder from any device, and supports eDiscovery, compliance and forensics needs. inSync also automatically synchronizes data between devices and users, secures and tracks shared files, and provides a unified audit trail of all usage and shared files.
