Now generally available, the Oracle OpenStack for Oracle Linux distribution allows users to control Oracle Linux and Oracle VM through OpenStack in production environments. Based on the OpenStack Icehouse release, Oracle’s distribution provides customers with increased choice and interoperability and takes advantage of the efficiency, performance, scalability, and security of Oracle Linux and Oracle VM. Oracle OpenStack for Oracle Linux is available as part of Oracle Linux Premier Support and Oracle VM Premier Support offerings at no additional cost.
The Oracle OpenStack for Oracle Linux distribution is generally available, allowing customers to use OpenStack software with Oracle Linux and Oracle VM.
Oracle OpenStack for Oracle Linux is OpenStack software that installs on top of Oracle Linux. To help ensure flexibility and openness, it can support any guest operating system (OS) that is supported with Oracle VM, including Oracle Linux, Oracle Solaris, Microsoft Windows, and other Linux distributions.
This release allows customers to build a highly scalable, multitenant environment and integrate with the rich ecosystem of plug-ins and extensions available for OpenStack.
In addition, Oracle OpenStack for Oracle Linux can integrate with third-party software and hardware to provide more choice and interoperability for customers.
Oracle OpenStack for Oracle Linux is available as a free download from the Oracle Public Yum Server and Unbreakable Linux Network (ULN).
An Oracle VM VirtualBox image of the product is also available on Oracle Technology Network, providing an easy way to get started with OpenStack.

Integration with MySQL Enterprise Edition: MySQL Enterprise Edition customers and Oracle OpenStack for Oracle Linux customers can benefit from the products’ integration, which improves performance, security, and uptime while providing a single point of contact for both OpenStack and MySQL support.
High-Availability support for OpenStack services: To help ensure deployments remain fully functional in case of hardware or software failures, customers can use Oracle Clusterware, which is included with Oracle Linux Support subscriptions, to protect OpenStack services.
Simplified enterprise support: With Oracle’s support for OpenStack, customers can receive complete end-to-end support for their OpenStack deployment with one phone call. This includes the back-end database, Oracle Linux, guest OS, and infrastructure support. With Oracle Linux Premier Support, customers can use the advanced features from Oracle Linux, such as Ksplice, to apply kernel fixes with no down time, and can analyze kernel performance with DTrace.
Integration with Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance: Oracle OpenStack for Oracle Linux includes the Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance Cinder plugin, which provides customers with an enterprise-grade storage option.
Support for Ceph storage software: Customers choosing to use Ceph can do so with Oracle OpenStack for Oracle Linux. Oracle plans to distribute and provide support for Ceph as part of the distribution.
Oracle Linux and Oracle VM at Oracle OpenWorld
With the strong adoption of Oracle Linux and Oracle VM, this year Oracle will host an Oracle Linux and Virtualization Showcase with OpenStack at Oracle OpenWorld 2014, which takes place from September 28 through October 2. The showcase will be located at Moscone South, Booth 611 and will be open during Exhibition Hall hours.
