CTERA Networks powers Deutsche Telekom Cloud Data Services

CTERA Networks and Deutsche Telekom have launched a new cloud-based data backup and cloud storage offering powered by CTERA’s enterprise data services platform. Within the terms of the partnership, Deutsche Telekom will leverage the complete range of CTERA solutions to provide enterprise customers with cloud-based data services such as managed backup, file sync and share, collaboration and managed hybrid storage for ROBO offices.

Localized cloud storage services are emerging as a major market requirement worldwide, and are especially critical in Germany where legal compliance and security remain top requirements. To provide customers’ full confidence in where their critical information is stored, Deutsche Telekom will store all data in its Germany-based data centers, leveraging the proven cloud storage platform EMC Atmos.

The first solution goes live today, as Deutsche Telekom has announced the availability of its new “Managed Backup to the Cloud” service – offering customers a simple and secure solution for PC and office-server data protection, available in both a public or a private cloud model. Leading analyst firm, Gartner, has discovered that an effective endpoint backup strategy can save the average enterprise up to €1.5M annually in productivity costs. Customers of the new data protection service from Deutsche Telekom can avoid the pains of data loss associated with computer malfunction and system theft, saving money and optimizing organizational efficiency.

Key factors in Deutsche Telekom’s selection of the CTERA platform included:
· CTERA provides a unified, centrally-managed solution for file sync, backup and ROBO storage gateways.
· Cross-platform support for Windows, Mac OS, Linux, iOS and Android
· Per-customer encryption key management and Active Directory identity management integration
· Source-based deduplication to optimize network and data center capacity consumption
· The ability to run the service entirely out of Deutsche Telekom’s German data centers and leverage object storage infrastructure to control cost and scale data services, without any dependencies on 3rd parties
· Multi-tier administration, private branding, and integrations with user billing and self-service portals

“Cloud backup and data storage is gaining momentum in Germany due to productivity, administrative and cost savings. However, companies have been reluctant to adopt offshore services that compromise the sovereignty of data that originates in Germany,” said Ingo Marten, vice president marketing grosskunden, marketing geschäftskunden at Deutsche Telekom. “Our Managed Backup to the Cloud offering provides enterprise customers with the best of both worlds: high-quality data protection that is simple for users to adopt and security and data privacy that meets the compliance needs of our Germany enterprise customers.”

“CTERA identified, early on, the acute need for private, sovereign services within Germany and is committed to enabling customer compliance through the investments we’re making in the German market,” said Beate Lange, regional sales director DACH, CTERA Networks. “We are very proud to announce this partnership with Deutsche Telekom today and to be the technology behind one of the world’s leading business cloud services offerings.”
