Customised cybersecurity solutions help overcome industry-specific challenges

The increasing number of connected devices is multiplying the probability of cyberattacks on companies across sectors. This is compelling organisations to adopt cybersecurity solutions in order to secure computing resources, information, networks and applications. As such, innovations will be directed towards fortifying sophisticated technologies such as cloud computing, big data, wireless communication, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Impact of Cybersecurity Innovations in Key Sectors, finds that in addition to comprehensive security solutions, the trend towards developing various layers of cybersecurity for attacks aimed at specific network layers has gathered pace. Securing perimeter, network, endpoint, application and data is particularly crucial due to the emergence of new threats on specific targets.

The study covers the following sectors: Healthcare, Information and Communication Technologies, Aerospace and Defence, Banking and Finance, Energy and Manufacturing.

“The deployment of IoT, especially, will open up innumerable attack surfaces for cyber attackers to leverage,” said Technical Insights Research Analyst Debarun Guha Thakurta. “As a result, endpoint and wireless network security for IoT will leap to the forefront of technology development and wide-scale adoption.”

Cybersecurity solution providers are focusing on vulnerability assessment in addition to traditional security features. With most cyber security solutions only able to identify an attack after considerable damage has been done, it is essential to spot and nullify threats at the point of inception.

Maintaining a balance between protection and monitoring is essential to recognize emerging types of attacks. Ensuring cognitive security while modelling security measures in alignment with each layer of security will help fight against unknown zero day attacks.

“The integration of futuristic technologies and mechanisms such as predictive threat analytics, machine learning, and network and device behaviour analysis will quicken the march towards proactive cyber security solutions,” added Thakurta. “The convergence of neural networks, machine learning, and predictive analytics will further lay the foundation for a plethora of next-generation cyber security solutions.”
