Dell has launched the Dell Precision Appliance for Wyse to support the growing use of graphics-intensive, workstation-class workloads in a variety of work settings. The industry’s first ever ISV-certified virtual workstation appliance solution, the Dell Precision Appliance for Wyse helps a variety of organisations – from media and entertainment to engineering firms to the exploration and energy industries – reap the benefits of ultra-powerful, workstation-class computing with greater IT efficiency, better data security and improved user workflows, but without compromising on user experience or performance.

Organisations that depend on graphics-intensive, workstation-class workloads are increasingly demanding mobility and flexibility to enable workers to achieve secure, need-based access to data and mission-critical applications wherever they are located. The Dell Precision Appliance for Wyse leverages the award-winning Dell Precision Rack R7910 workstation, NVIDIA Quadro and GRID GPU technology, Teradici PCoIP remote workstation technology and VMware virtualization software, offering access for up to three users per appliance in dedicated GPU mode or four to eight users per appliance in shared GPU mode. Users can connect via a diverse set of endpoints including Dell Wyse dual or quad display thin and zero clients, desktops, laptops, or Dell Precision tower and mobile workstations.

Dell has worked closely with the ISV community to validate and certify their software on the Dell Precision Appliance for Wyse, making it easier than ever to plan and deploy the appliance solution. The solution offers certified configurations for workstation-class applications including those from Siemens PLM software. Applications from other ISVs including PTC Creo are expected to be certified in the coming months. Users can expect a similar experience using an ISV application with the Dell Precision Appliance for Wyse virtual workstation solution as on a traditional fixed or mobile workstation.

Consistent with the Dell promise of making virtualization easier to plan, deploy and run, the Dell Precision Appliance for Wyse can be deployed in just five minutes once powered on, and can be managed without a dedicated IT staff, or by IT staff with limited virtualization experience. IT administrators can provide need-based access to data and applications and centralise enforcement of security policies for easier management, better control of valuable IP, and reduced complexity. The Dell Precision Appliance for Wyse is a true end-to-end solution which includes Dell Precision-class data center hardware, software, end points and services.
