At selected MPC sites, the Avere FXT Edge filers offload EMC Isilon core storage to accelerate the rendering processes while delivering maximum interactivity to the artists’ workstations. Artists need instant access to storage to load and save their creations while the rendering farms are constantly grinding away to produce each frame of the current workload pixel by pixel. The Avere equipment acts as a buffer to prioritize access and this allows the artists to work without time delays and ensures optimum use of storage.
Over the past year, Avere’s solutions have played a major role in MPC’s production of six of the past year’s top 12 global box-office hits[1]. The most striking visuals include a 400-shot aerial battle in Guardians of the Galaxy, the magnificent cliffside castle in Maleficent and the mutant-slaying Sentinels in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
“Avere really gives us benefits in multiple directions,” said Martin Weaver, Head of Infrastructure Delivery at MPC. “From reducing infrastructure costs to extending the use of our core storage and conserving data center space as the business grows. We continue to find new ways to put these resource and budget savings to work delivering blockbuster results for our clients.”
