Global Switch commences construction of final stages of Sydney East Data Centre

Global Switch, the leading owner and operator of large scale cloud and carrier neutral data centre space in Europe and Asia-Pacific, has commenced construction of the last two stages of its Sydney East data centre following a pre-commitment made by a leading cloud provider. The new data centre is located on Global Switch’s Sydney campus adjacent to the Sydney Central Business District (CBD) and next to its existing Sydney West data centre.

Demand for the new data centre has come from a large number of leading multi-national companies requiring highly resilient and secure space for housing mission critical IT equipment, as well as the need to be collocated with Global Switch’s network dense and low latency carrier ecosystem. With early works already completed, stage 2 of the construction has already commenced and will be delivered in Q2 2017 to pre-commitment customers with remaining space coming onto the market progressively. On completion of the final stages of the $300 million Sydney East development, Global Switch’s Sydney campus will span 73,000 m2 and 83 MVA of utility power capacity. With six telecommunication rooms and four diverse telecommunication entry points to the campus Global Switch Sydney’s customers also benefit from the richest carrier density in the country.
Stage 1 of Sydney East received a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold rating and the same leading environmental design concepts and construction standards used in the first stage will be applied to the final two stages.
John Corcoran, Global Switch’s Executive Chairman and CEO said "With construction having commenced on the final stages of the Sydney East data centre, we look forward to providing further opportunities to new and existing customers to benefit from a network dense environment providing resilience and economies of scale. The Global Switch Sydney campus serves as a core node not just for Sydney and Australia but, in terms of connectivity and services, a key hub for the Asia-Pacific region as a whole.’’
Damon Reid, Global Switch's Managing Director in Sydney said “I would like to thank our customers for their support including their commitment to the final stages of our Sydney East data centre. Our scale and location alongside our ability to offer flexible and secure solutions are proving very attractive to both service providers and end users. Our Sydney campus is unique in the scale of the ecosystem it delivers to customers and we look forward to working with our world leading customers to further expand that ecosystem, as well as the carrier and cloud providers, that make this campus the leading connectivity hub in Australia’’
