While SD-WAN architectures are accepted as the future for globally-focused companies (Gartner has predicted that 30% of global organisations will deploy SD-WAN by 2019 and IDC estimates a global SD-WAN infrastructure and services market in excess of $6 billion by 2020), many CIOs and network managers have yet to sort out the practicalities of SD-WAN delivery models to cope with their legacy needs or future growth strategies.
Teneo’s research shows that 24% of CIOs have SD-WAN technology in operation, either as a global implementation or on a number of sites, with 23% piloting it and 33% planning deployment.
IT professionals in particular need centralised tools to deal with infrastructure priorities including:
· improving the performance of complex applications run over worldwide branch networks
· reducing network cost and resourcing needs
· simplifying application performance and security monitoring needs.
To meet these global and extended branch network needs, Teneo is introducing managed SD-WAN. Supported by Riverbed’s SteelConnect SD-WAN technology, it simplifies the processes for designing, deploying and managing distributed networks and streamlines network architecture modernisation.
This new type of global SD-WAN service – where expert providers such as Teneo manage the cutting-edge SD-WAN tools for customers – provides a practical way for in-house IT teams to gain visibility of their applications and capacity as they use more cloud services and hybrid networks and expand across borders.
Using the Teneo service, previously hard-pressed network managers will be able to provision networks with several clicks and achieve end-to-end visibility of applications, infrastructure, networks and users – and drill down for root cause of performance issues, all done from a central point with 24x7 availability.
Marc Sollars, CTO at Teneo, explains: “Despite most IT teams accepting the principle of SD-WAN technologies, they realise that transitioning to them is complex, with most having global WANs with interconnected dependencies and security policies.”
“These new managed SD-WAN services will help enterprises plan deployments that fully support their business and application priorities - and ensure ongoing, ‘resource-lite’ management of both implementations and future networking needs.”
Teneo’s service provides the scarce people resources, skill sets, time and round-the-clock management needed to optimise SD-WAN technology performance and efficiency: the company’s team has worked with SD-WAN technologies since 2011.
Marc Sollars says Teneo’s innovation will fundamentally change CIOs’ use of networking teams: “This is a big shift away from the networking function being lumped together with IT administration towards more dynamic models where expert third parties will be equipping network managers with global network provisioning and business analytics capabilities.”
He comments: “Riverbed SteelConnect’s application-defined approach unifies user connectivity and the cloud with business locations and data centres, making networks easy to set up and manage from one central location. Global network operations are further simplified with around the clock performance monitoring, care and advice delivered through a proven partnering model.”
