Paragon Software has joined the Renesas R-Car Consortium to address growing automotive storage technology demand for advanced in-vehicle infotainment systems (IVI). Paragon File System Link can now be embedded into automotive infotainment systems, enabling car owners to connect USB devices, SD Cards, digital assistants, or other external storage media directly to IVI systems and instantly enjoy audio and video recordings, regardless of the file format. Paragon File System Link is already available to automotive OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers for integration with Renesas R-Car SoCs running automotive OSs, including Android™, Linux, Integrity® and QNX®, guaranteeing the highest level of performance and reliability.

According to a new study by Grand View Research, Inc., the global automotive infotainment market is expected to reach USD $37.62 billion by 2025. Renesas, a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions for the automotive industry, plays a leading role in the connected car development by supplying chips that handle everything from sensing and decision-making to vehicle control and communication. Renesas makes it possible for developers to add value by bringing advanced features and capabilities to infotainment systems, such as speech and handwriting recognition, audio and video content access, and much more. The integration of Paragon File System Link will allow automotive Tier-1 suppliers to deliver the most cutting-edge IVI systems to OEMs, without having to worry about file system format compatibility, Full HD or 4K data transfer speeds, or high CPU loads.

“Renesas R-Car Consortium’s key objective is to provide a platform for developing next-generation connected car systems and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for car manufacturers and suppliers,” said Masayasu Yoshida, Senior director, Automotive Information Solution Business Division, Automotive Solution Business Unit at Renesas Electronics Corporation. “The Consortium motivates leading automotive companies and partners to collaborate on the development process. We are happy to open the door to developers like Paragon Software, who can contribute to the progress of delivering cutting-edge features. Paragon File System Link technology will bring added value to our market-leading products and help automotive Tier-1 suppliers stay competitive in the increasingly data-driven ecosystem.”

Paragon File System Link allows car owners to instantly access media content on external storage devices formatted in any popular file system — NTFS, exFAT, APFS, HFS+ — directly on connected car systems, without the need to re-format. Already installed in millions of devices, Paragon’s drivers provide the most reliable and highest data throughput speeds possible, whilst ensuring the lowest possible CPU load. Paragon’s embedded drivers have proven essential in the car media subsystem, and have been successfully utilized in automotive IVI projects. Paragon File System Link enables direct access to physical drives as well as buffered input/output access, making it possible to process unsupported storage partitions and access audio and video files on the fly.

“Paragon Software is proud to join the Renesas R-Car consortium and to actively support future developments through our technical expertise,” commented Konstantin Komarov, CEO at Paragon Software. “Paragon Software is set to provide key storage technology software stacks that will ensure the best customer experience through leading performance, high stability, seamless interoperability, and full data safety.”
