Majority of IT professionals investing just 20% of their budget in IT management

SolarWinds IT Trends Report 2022 reveals progress is hampered by low investment.

With IT professionals increasingly facing the challenge of managing distributed IT environments, two-thirds (64%) of IT professionals say their organisation has prioritised implementing observability as a strategy. This is according to the IT Trends research from SolarWinds, a leading provider of simple, powerful, and secure IT management software.

Despite this, the report – which examines the acceleration of digital transformation efforts and its impact on IT departments – also shows a disconnect between adoption of observability as a strategy and investment into the required tools. In fact, four-fifths (81%) of respondents admitted their organisation plans to devote less than 20% of their budget to IT management tools over the next 12 months.

Commenting on the news, SolarWinds President and CEO, Sudhakar Ramakrishna, said, “IT professionals are increasingly looking towards observability to overcome distributed and complex IT environments that stand in the way of digital transformation efforts.

“However, despite its ability to help these teams manage hybrid IT more effectively and maximise return on investment (ROI), implementing observability within budget and time constraints remains a challenge. It’s vital for strategic discussions to take place with senior leadership regarding IT priorities – and the necessity for investment of both time and money. IT pros must be prepared to fight for their cause with water-tight proposals that align IT goals with overall targets.”
