Corning wins DCS Innovation Award with EDGE Distribution System

Corning’s proprietary technology recognised as Data Centre Physical Connectivity Innovation of the Year.

Corning has achieved its eleventh consecutive victory in the Data Centre Solutions (DCS) Awards as its EDGE™ Distribution System is crowned “Data Centre Physical Connectivity Innovation of the Year” in the 2023 ceremony in London.

Today’s data centres must be capable of storing and managing massive amounts of information, support customer needs 24/7 and be operational as quickly as possible. Operators are under more pressure than ever before and can’t allow delays in network installation to stand in the way of meeting ever-increasing demands for bandwidth.

To overcome this challenge, Corning developed the EDGE Distribution System, an innovative new solution for server row cabling, replacing large quantities of patch cords with one single assembly.

Ideal for large scale deployments, the solution is pre-engineered to meet customer specifications with access points at defined locations along the assembly, providing connectivity exactly where it is required at each cabinet. Designed to meet the ever-growing demand for information processing in the cloud, the EDGE Distribution System shortens installation time for server cabling by up to 75%, helps address shortages in skilled labour, and provides up to a 55% reduction in carbon footprint by minimising materials and packaging.

“The EDGE Distribution System solution was developed with our customers’ pain points in mind and overcomes many of the typical challenges which can make data centre projects a cumbersome and time-consuming process.” said Cindy Ryborz, EMEA data centre marketing manager, Corning Optical Communications. “We’re so grateful for the many customers, channel network partners, and IT industry peers who have once again lent us their support in these awards.”

Phil Alsop, editor at Digitalisation World, says: “The DCS Awards recognise the very best product designers, manufacturers, suppliers and providers operating in the data centre industry. Congratulations to Corning for their continued success.”
