Rocket Software, a global leader in modernization software, has launched its NextGen Academy in Newbury, UK. This landmark program aims to equip participants with both essential skills and practical experience needed to excel in enterprise software development, focusing primarily on COBOL and other indispensable technologies.
The program, following its successful debut in Lithuania, will span three months and offers an intense, structured curriculum led by senior engineers from Rocket Software's Newbury office. Participants stand to benefit from a gamut of opportunities designed to foster their software careers, including:
Neil Fowler, SVP of hybrid cloud engineering and NextGen Academy board chair, emphasized the initiative's importance, stating that the Academy provides more than just technical instruction—it's a transformative experience equipping participants with confidence, practical experience, and cross-functional expertise essential for immediate impact in dynamic workplaces. Participants not only gain a strong technical foundation but also develop vital soft skills for today's workplace.
Building on its early success, the global program will soon launch in Northwest Arkansas, with plans for further expansion to address regional skill gaps and specialized needs. Each Academy will tailor its courses, partnering with local educational entities to optimize its reach. Notably, in the UK, Rocket Software collaborates with WAVEZ, a user group fostered to develop the next generation of mainframe professionals.
According to Ricki West, WAVEZ Chairperson, Rocket Software's partnership with WAVEZ allows young professionals access to a broader network of peers, industry events, and learning opportunities beyond the classroom. Such collaboration not only promotes individual growth but also strengthens the entire industry's future.
