SurrealDB has announced the release of SurrealMCP, a new tool in AI memory management. Built on the open Model Context Protocol standard, SurrealMCP offers AI-driven tools like IDEs, chatbots, AI agents, and data platforms a secure foundation for storing and recalling live structured data.

SurrealDB releases this technology as a response to current AI systems' limitations, particularly their inability to maintain persistent memory. SurrealMCP overcomes this barrier, enabling AI models to responsibly access and interact with dynamic data stored in SurrealDB's advanced multi-model engine. Without long-term memory AI agents can't retain context or build on past knowledge.

AI innovation enthusiasts can expect myriad capabilities. With SurrealMCP, AI agents can:

  • Remember important conversations, facts, and events over time, ensuring continuity and context.
  • Perform queries and data updates while respecting role-based access controls.
  • Forge connections across vectors, graphs, and documents to capture deeper contextual meanings.
  • Efficiently manage tasks like creating schemas or injecting data patterns.

Exciting use cases illustrate the potential of SurrealMCP:

  • Interactive intelligence: “Store this chat and recall anything about shipping delays.” The system presents the dialogue as vectors, contextualising relevant data and making it accessible.
  • Data-driven decisions: A business case could be “Identify customers in the top ten percent by lifetime value,” where SurrealMCP forms optimised secure queries.
  • Operational command: “Establish a dev namespace in Europe, apply the schema, seed sample data,” all executed seamlessly.
  • Enhancing enterprises: Empower CRM insights, ensure real-time inventory statistics, and improve customer support tracking.

SurrealMCP also integrates seamlessly, supporting multiple transport modes such as stdio, HTTP, and Unix sockets. Its advanced capabilities include bearer token authentication, rate limiting, and OpenTelemetry tracing. It fully embraces the MCP framework, establishing a secure model for data retrieval with sophisticated access controls.

Users can explore SurrealMCP in both self-hosted SurrealDB modes or cloud platforms. Deployment is hassle-free either via Docker or as an independent binary. Documentation, source code, and guidance materials are ready on GitHub.

As developers plug into this revolutionary tool, the world inches closer to smarter, more context-aware AI solutions.
