Vantage Data Centers, a global leader in hyperscale data centre campuses, has successfully secured a $1.6 billion investment to enhance its presence in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. This investment, spearheaded by affiliates of GIC and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), will significantly bolster Vantage's expansion strategy.
The company's groundbreaking plans also include the strategic acquisition of Yondr Group's expansive 300MW+ data centre campus in Sedenak Tech Park, Johor, Malaysia. This campus, touted as one of the region's largest, will substantially augment Vantage's capacity in Southeast Asia. Recently under the management of affiliates of DigitalBridge Group, the facility finds itself in capable hands as Vantage undertakes its new growth mission.
The fresh influx of capital underscores the burgeoning opportunities for digital infrastructure within APAC, fuelled by the surging demand for AI-driven solutions. With a substantial portion of the funds allocated towards the Johor acquisition, the remaining investment will support additional growth strategies across the region.
Jeremy Deutsch, Vantage's APAC president, highlighted the pivotal nature of this investment. With support from both GIC and ADIA, Vantage's APAC operations will expand to a 1GW capacity. This acquisition mirrors Vantage's vision of delivering rapid, scalable solutions for its clientele within the AI and cloud sectors.
Both Boon Chin Hau from GIC and Khadem AlRemeithi from ADIA express strong support for this latest move, emphasising Vantage's stellar standing as a leading provider of hyperscale data centre solutions. Their commitment reinforces Vantage's trajectory within a region rapidly adapting to advances in digital technology.
As anticipated, the investment and related acquisitions are expected to reach completion by Q4 2025, contingent upon standard procedures seamlessly aligning.
Spread over 73 acres, the Johor campus, christened JHB1, promises over 300MW of data capacity through three state-of-the-art centres, promoting sustainability by incorporating advanced cooling systems and aiming for EDGE certification.
Johor’s strategic location within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone renders unique benefits, offering direct fibre connectivity that caters to increasing digital demands of the vicinity. Alongside competitive land costs and government incentives, Johor stands as a promising hub for digital infrastructure in Southeast Asia.
When fully operational, Vantage's APAC portfolio will feature a diversified array of data centres in nations including Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, marking a solid footprint in the region.
