In a groundbreaking move, Digital Realty (NYSE: DLR) has launched its first data center in Ghana, marking a milestone in its global strategy by extending the reach of PlatformDIGITAL® to Africa. The new facility, situated in bustling Accra, is anticipated to be a pivotal player in the continent's digital development.

The Accra-based data center, ACR2, is strategically located at the nexus of numerous fiber routes and subsea cables, including direct links to the 2Africa cable system. This positioning ensures that ACR2 provides unparalleled connectivity, making it a vital conduit for global digital interaction. Offering carrier-neutral colocation services, the center boasts an anticipated IT capacity of 1.7MW, ready to accommodate the diverse needs of businesses from various sectors.

Joseph Koranteng, Managing Director, Digital Realty in Ghana, emphasised the facility's dual commitment to performance and compliance, emphasizing its significant role in Ghana's digital infrastructure.

The facility is meticulously designed to uphold data sovereignty while offering secure and compliant hosting solutions. Its establishment is projected to bolster Ghana's role in the digital economy, spurring innovation, investments, and increased inclusivity.

Koranteng elaborated on the broader mission: maintaining data security within Ghana's borders while ensuring global business connectivity. He highlighted ACR2's alignment with international standards, providing similar infrastructure quality as seen in top global cities, without businesses needing to relocate.

As Digital Realty ventures into Africa, it reinforces its dedication to shaping the continent's digital future—one where local hosting meets global connectivity. ACR2 stands as a testament to the company's ambition to merge local enterprises with the global digital landscape, nurturing the West African innovation ecosystem.
