Lumen’s adoption of Blue Planet’s AI Studio represents a step toward building an AI-enabled network. Blue Planet, part of Ciena’s portfolio, provides AI-based orchestration and management capabilities designed to support operations across multiple network domains. The initiative aligns with Lumen’s broader strategy to reduce legacy complexity and modernise infrastructure.

The deployment focuses on AI agents designed to automate processes that have traditionally required manual effort. The Blue Planet AI Studio is a low-code, OSS-native platform that enables the development, management, and deployment of AI agents. These agents are intended to automate data workflows, support task execution, and contribute to operational efficiency.

Initial applications include device model generation and digital network twins. These use cases aim to reduce the time required for tasks such as device modelling and network inventory reconciliation. The AI Studio is also intended to support the integration of insights and automation within network environments.

The collaboration between Lumen and Blue Planet reflects ongoing efforts to incorporate AI into network infrastructure and operations. Through pre-built OSS-focused AI agents, the platform supports automated workflows and network management capabilities. These tools are designed to contribute to operational standardisation and increased automation.

By leveraging Blue Planet’s platform, Lumen is positioning itself to expand AI-based capabilities within its network operations.
