Tenable Holdings has launched an OT asset discovery engine designed to support the management of risks associated with cyber-physical systems, including OT, IoT, and shadow IT. By incorporating OT Discovery into its VM-Native platform, Tenable enables deployment without additional hardware or IT overhead, and supports management of AI-driven exposure.

Security teams are increasingly responsible for protecting cyber-physical systems spanning environments such as factory floors and data centres. Traditional approaches to gaining visibility have often required extensive deployment of specialised hardware and software. The integration within Tenable’s platform is intended to address these challenges and provide vulnerability management through the Tenable One Exposure Management Platform.

CISOs responsible for OT security face increasing complexity in securing environments where IT and cyber-physical systems intersect. The convergence of IT infrastructure and modern OT systems has created visibility gaps, with reports indicating that 45% of current OT compromises originate from IT environments.

Early adopters in sectors such as hospitality and finance have reported discovering hundreds of previously unidentified OT and IoT assets, some of which contained critical vulnerabilities, after deploying the OT discovery engine. The tool is described as supporting:

  • Faster OT security compliance through simplified deployment aligned with evolving regulatory requirements
  • Reduced visibility gaps through identification of previously hidden assets and device attributes
  • Integration with the Tenable One platform to provide visibility of an organisation’s cyber exposure

Tenable also provides an OT security solution for more complex environments, offering visibility and control across converging OT and IT systems. This capability is available to users of Tenable One, Tenable Vulnerability Management, and Tenable Security Center.

These developments reflect the expansion of Tenable’s exposure management capabilities across different technological environments.
