EdgeMode signs MOU with Mora for DC Malpica development

EdgeMode and Mora join forces to develop a high-capacity 300 MW data centre.

EdgeMode has entered into a partnership with the City Council of Mora to develop "DC Malpica", a planned data centre campus with a capacity of 300 MW. The project is located in Toledo, Spain, and is intended to support artificial intelligence (AI), high-performance computing (HPC), and cloud services in Europe.

The two parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that establishes a framework for cooperation to support the development of the data centre. The project represents a planned investment of €3 billion.

Mora's location and existing infrastructure are factors in the project's development, given its proximity to Madrid, a centre for AI and digital infrastructure. Across EdgeMode's portfolio of Spanish sites, the company's planned capacity exceeds 4.35 GW. The partnership also includes plans to deploy onsite power through microgrid solutions.

According to EdgeMode, the project is intended to contribute to the region's development as a data centre location. The company states that DC Malpica is expected to generate economic activity, employment opportunities, and technological development for the local area while meeting applicable environmental standards.

Under the terms of the MOU, the City Council has committed to supporting the project through administrative coordination and by advocating for its recognition as a Project of Strategic Interest. EdgeMode has also stated that it intends for the campus to contribute to the local economy and community.

The project includes a target of creating up to 5,000 jobs during the construction phase. Plans also include regional collaboration, as well as training and skills development programmes for the local workforce.

The project is expected to incorporate energy-efficient, low-emission technologies as part of its development, with the aim of reducing environmental impact and aligning with industry practices.

The initial term of the MOU is 24 months. During this period, the parties have committed to transparency, regulatory compliance, and acting in good faith as they work towards the development of the project in Mora.
