Six Degress Group acquires central London data centre operator

Six Degrees Group (6DG has acquired BIS, an independent data centre operator that provides corporate colocation and private cloud services from Central London. The transaction adds £16m of revenues and significant scale to 6DG’s hosting portfolio. It also develops the Group’s presence in Europe’s largest data centre market, positioning 6DG as one of a small number of colocation providers with both Central London and outside M25 datacentres.

Commenting on the acquisition, Alastair Mills, CEO of Six Degrees Group, stated: “To serve both our City clients and mid-market customers across the UK, a Central London datacentre presence is critical. Our strategy has always been to have complete control of our own hosting and network assets as this end-to-end ownership allows us to create and manage the highly available services our customers demand.”

The integration of BIS gives 6DG a prime Central London asset which changes the competitive landscape for the company, as Mills explains: “The location adds huge credibility to our service offering. Many of our target customers still insist on a proprietary London presence and not just reselling space in somebody else’s data centre which, frankly, anyone can offer.”

BIS adds 200 customers and 30 people to 6DG. With the 80 organic heads added to 6DG in the last year it takes the group’s headcount to 250 employees with run-rate revenues of over £70 million.

Mills concludes: “The acquisition of BIS is a strategically significant addition to our asset portfolio. We are gaining a high-quality hosting centre at the heart of the country’s digital economy. BIS has a strong heritage, an excellent mid-market customer list and we look forward to its talented team joining 6DG to help us to maintain our track record of strong organic growth.”
