Firewall Security-as-a-Service offering for hosting providers

Clavister’s virtual NGFW service gives data centre hosting providers new revenue streams, with no upfront capital costs for either provider or end customer.

Clavister has announced a new security-as-a-service (SECaaS) solution for data centre hosting providers, enabling them to provision and manage virtual next-generation firewall (NGFW) solutions to secure customers’ virtualized environments, with no need for upfront capital investment in security appliances by the provider. Clavister’s SECaaS enables hosting providers to profit immediately from reselling the services.

Clavister’s SECaaS offering is based on its award-winning Virtual Series Gateway NGFW solutions. Hosting providers who want to set-up virtual NGFWs to protect their customers’ virtualized environments simply use Clavister’s web SECaaS configurator to configure the service to the customer’s specific needs. These include setting firewall throughput and choosing next-generation features including IPS, IDS, application control, content filtering, antivirus and VPN capability. The configurator then calculates the monthly cost per license, and the service can be deployed to protect the customer’s environment within minutes.

No purchase of physical appliances is needed by either the provider or customer. Providers can simply deploy and manage hundreds or thousands of individual Clavister Virtual Series Gateways as a SECaaS offering, with a high degree of flexibility and pay-as-you-go pricing.

According to Clavister, its SECaaS offering is unique in enabling both hosting providers and end-users to enjoy the advantages of individual security with no upfront costs and flexible provisioning. John Vestberg, CEO of Clavister said: “We’re enabling hosting companies to offer security services to their customers using the same advanced technology that protects enterprise networks. What’s more, they can generate profit on it from day one, with no upfront capital costs. Analysts agree that the market for SECaaS services nearly trebled in 2012, and is predicted to grow by a further 50% in the next three years, so this presents a great opportunity for hosting providers to differentiate themselves, attract new business and upsell their existing customer base."

Key security features supported by Clavister’s SECaaS include:
· Scalable in features and performance with throughput from 10Mbps to 4Gbps
· Selectable NGFW content-level security including application control, IPS & IDS, web content filtering and antivirus
· IPsec, SSL and PPP VPN service options
· Traffic management and advanced routing options
· Centralized remote security gateway management and configuration
· Automated software and security updates
· Customizable logging and reporting
