Egnyte brings the enterprise storage to Google Drive

Google Drive gets local storage integration, granular permissions, auditing, and external sharing with latest Egnyte release.

Egnyte says that the latest version of its solution unifies Google Drive’s document collaboration with Egnyte’s enterprise storage and sharing. Due to its unique real-time collaborative editing capabilities and the ability to create content natively in the cloud, Google Drive is rapidly growing in popularity and this unique integration now provides enterprise customers with the flexibility and security to use the collaboration, storage and sharing tools that best fit their needs.

Egnyte’s latest release provides end-users with one simple view of all the files they need – Google Drive, Microsoft Office, CAD drawings, images, multimedia, etc. – and enables them to access those files from anywhere, whether that’s in the cloud or via on-premise storage. And IT now has complete control and visibility over these files, with centrally managed access permissions as well as real-time auditing of all file, folder and login activity.

According to new IDG statistics, approximately 61% of enterprise files will always need to be stored locally*, which means businesses will continue to rely heavily on on-premise storage to enable employees to securely create and share files. Egnyte makes both users and IT happy by integrating the disparate worlds of cloud document collaboration and enterprise storage and sharing into one unified view.

“We know the files employees need in order to do their jobs can live anywhere in an enterprise. Our unique hybrid approach provides a unified namespace for all these files, no matter where they reside,” said Egnyte CEO Vineet Jain. “This new Google Drive integration makes enterprise users even more productive by providing a single, simple view into all files they have access to, no matter where those files are located - on-premise, in the cloud, or in Google Drive.”

In addition, users can now store Google Drive and Microsoft Office files side by side inside their secure Egnyte folders to create a unified namespace of their files across their smartphones, tablets and computers. And Egnyte’s unique Storage Sync feature enables users to access these files via enterprise storage NAS and SAN devices from the likes of NetApp and EMC.

Egnyte’s integration promotes frictionless sharing with customers and business partners by enabling users to share Google Drive files via secure links, without requiring the recipient to use a Gmail account.
