TelecityGroup achieves ISO 50001 certification for energy management

Facilities in the UK and France awarded international standard for efficient energy management practices.

TelecityGroup says that the first phase of its programme to certify its entire portfolio of 36 data centres across Europe with ISO50001 has been completed with its facilities in the UK and France all achieving this ISO 50001 certification for energy management. The certification recognises TelecityGroup’s ongoing commitment to ensure environmental excellence across its operations.

The ISO 50001 standard recognises best practice in energy efficiency in organisations by making it easier to integrate energy management into their overall efforts to improve quality and environmental management. In particular, it is designed to support organisations that are able to continually improve energy management through developing policies for the more efficient use of energy, setting targets and objectives to meet the policy, and being able to accurately measure the results.

The certification recognises TelecityGroup’s industry-leading approach to energy efficiency through its Energy Management Programme, where the company has built a detailed understanding of the factors driving energy consumption, enabling it to identify, prioritise and implement energy saving projects. In the past year, TelecityGroup has also driven accountability in the data centre industry by being the first to commit to long-term and clear carbon management targets.

Michael Tobin, CEO, TelecityGroup said: “We are committed to excellence and setting the benchmark in our environmental strategy and quality standards. This philosophy starts with the senior management team and is engrained throughout the culture of TelecityGroup. We are proud to be recognised as a leader in the market in terms of environmental management and best practice, and receiving the ISO 50001 certification is recognition for our dedication to continual improvement.”

The ISO 50001 standard complements TelecityGroup’s current Group-wide ISO 14001 certification for environmental management and its compliance with the EU Code of Conduct for Data Centres’ best practices. TelecityGroup plans to roll out the new ISO 50001 standard across its entire data centre portfolio over the course of the next 24 months.
