Distil Networks consolidates IT infrastructure

Leader in bot protection reduces costs, simplifies IT management and scales globally to help customers fight fraud, data theft and poor web performance.

Distil Networks, a website security provider that protects sites hosted in public and private clouds against attacks from malicious bots, has consolidated its IT infrastructure from five different managed service providers (MSPs) to Internap’s managed hosting and bare-metal cloud services. By moving its global IT infrastructure to Internap, Distil is able to scale its services more efficiently while delivering improved performance to customers – both key differentiators in cloud-based security solutions.

“When piecing together infrastructure from a variety of MSPs, we ended up spending a lot of time dealing with integration overhead and logistical headaches, such as working with dozens of APIs to try and create a unified IT infrastructure,” said Rami Essaid, Distil Networks co-founder and CEO. “Moving our business entirely to Internap’s platform dramatically simplified Distil’s IT infrastructure management while providing immediate global scale and significantly improved performance.”

With the aim of creating an IT infrastructure that positions Distil for continued customer growth worldwide, the company transitioned from using a number of regional MSPs to Internap’s global, high-performance managed hosting and cloud services. Distil is currently using Internap’s managed hosting services in London and Atlanta and Internap’s AgileSERVER bare-metal cloud in Santa Clara, Dallas, New York, Amsterdam and Singapore.
Distil’s transition to Internap has resulted in a variety of business benefits for the company and its customers, including:
· Increased infrastructure performance – Distil saw a double-digit performance increase when testing Internap’s IT infrastructure against its previous IT solution.
· Global scale – Instead of coordinating with disparate providers in various regions, Distil has a consistent, comprehensive and global IT infrastructure platform with Internap that can easily scale to meet growing customer demand.
· Cost savings – Distil’s net savings from consolidating its infrastructure from five regional providers to Internap was initially 10 per cent, and the company expects long-term efficiencies and economies of scale to generate more than three times this initial savings over the next few years. Distil is also seeing human capital savings from not having to manage multiple providers.
· Internal resource efficiencies – Distil no longer wastes time and resources on the logistics of working with multiple IT infrastructure providers, and that time is redirected to new product development and other customer initiatives associated with the company’s core business.

“From content scraping to web form and comment spam, bots pose a serious digital threat to any business, and even more importantly, can negatively impact website performance, leading to a poor user experience and higher abandonment rates,” said Gopala Tumuluri, Internap’s vice president of hosted services. “Performance is critical for blocking bots, and in comparison tests, Internap beat out the performance of Distil’s previous infrastructure, resulting in a faster, more reliable bot protection service for customers.”

Major travel sites, digital publishers, e-commerce and other businesses rely on Distil to provide real-time protection from malicious bots, requiring uncompromising performance for their complex, computationally-intensive algorithms and cloud-based delivery model. Underscoring Internap’s performance difference, a recent report by analyst firm Cloud Spectator showed that Internap’s AgileSERVER bare-metal cloud offers orders of magnitude better performance, consistency and value when compared to similar virtual cloud configurations for Amazon Web Services Elastic Compute Cloud and Rackspace OpenCloud.
