BCS Consultancy's expansion in Africa

BCS Consultancy expands its global reach with a new office in Cape Town, aiming to strengthen local expertise amidst rising data centre demands in Africa.

BCS Consultancy, a global data centre consultancy, has announced plans to open a new office in South Africa, as part of its international expansion strategy. The office, scheduled to open in Cape Town this month, is intended to support growing demand in the African data centre sector, driven by cloud adoption, digital transformation, and AI workloads.

The company’s decision to establish a presence in South Africa reflects the country’s position as a developed data centre market, with established hyperscale and colocation operations. Market forecasts estimate the sector’s value could increase from USD 2.55 billion in 2025 to USD 5.28 billion by 2031, with increased activity expected to contribute to regional growth.

The South African office will be led by Oskar Lampe. It is intended to serve international clients while also contributing to local employment opportunities and skills development. The initiative also aims to help address skills shortages in the global data centre industry by supporting local talent development, with a focus on areas such as project management and digital infrastructure delivery.

The growth of AI-related workloads in established markets is increasing demand for high-density data centre facilities. In response to this trend, BCS plans to apply its international experience to challenges related to energy supply and infrastructure planning in South Africa. The local electricity grid is under pressure, making considerations such as power strategy and site selection important factors in project delivery.

South Africa’s professional services sector and established cloud regions are part of the company’s rationale for expanding into the country. The office is expected to support the development of regional delivery capability and help address gaps in skills and supply chain capacity.

“South Africa is a natural next step for BCS as we continue expanding our international footprint,” said Oskar Lampe, Regional Director, BCS Consultancy. “The region is entering a major acceleration phase for digital infrastructure and presents a significant long-term opportunity for both operators and investors. By establishing a local presence, we can combine our global experience with on-the-ground delivery capability to better support clients navigating increasingly complex projects across South Africa and the wider African market.”

Looking ahead, BCS also plans to expand further across Africa, using the South African office as a regional base. This includes supporting emerging digital infrastructure markets in other countries, such as Kenya.

Following its recent expansion in Europe, BCS views South Africa as part of its broader growth trajectory. The region’s ongoing infrastructure development presents opportunities for operators and investors, and the company aims to combine international experience with local delivery capabilities to support projects across the African market.
