Fujitsu extends PRIMEFLEX for OpenStack family

New Fujitsu PRIMEFLEX Integrated System adds native integration of SUSE OpenStack Cloud, creates options for fast and risk-free deployment of private cloud infrastructures.

A new addition to the Fujitsu PRIMEFLEX line-up of Integrated Systems announced today is designed to provide enterprises with a foundation for their future investments in open source-based cloud computing. Offering robust enterprise-class performance combined with the powerful economic advantages of the SUSE OpenStack Cloud management platform, the new SUSE edition of FUJITSU Integrated System PRIMEFLEX for OpenStack provides enterprises with a smooth path towards migrating their on-premise systems to the cloud.

The solution is the first outcome of the strategic alliance between Fujitsu and SUSE, announced in November last year. This alliance is focused on further developing cloud solutions, mission-critical support and future container technologies. Developed jointly by Fujitsu and SUSE, the new edition of PRIMEFLEX for OpenStack enables enterprises to extend on-premise environments into the cloud faster – therefore taking advantage of the flexibility and cost-savings of cloud-based computing. Fujitsu and SUSE are also making the use of OpenStack cloud computing a safer bet than ever, as the new PRIMEFLEX system is designed to take the complexity and guesswork out of getting an OpenStack cloud environment up and running. Peace of mind is assured thanks to the use of a common reference architecture. Enterprises can therefore be confident that the system will work  out-of-the-box.

PRIMEFLEX for OpenStack is designed for customers who are looking to safely, quickly and easily evaluate and then deploy private OpenStack, as they take a first step into cloud environments. The SUSE edition is the latest specialised solution to join the highly-successful PRIMEFLEX line-up of Integrated Systems, which includes a range of both ready-to-run systems and reference architectures.

Joerg Hartmann, Vice President and Head of Category Management, EMEIA, Fujitsu, says: “OpenStack is now the de-facto standard for cloud infrastructures - regardless of the type of workload - and brings significant cost advantages in comparison to proprietary systems. Nevertheless, until now, deploying an OpenStack environment has required significant expertise and a do-it-yourself approach that can be error-prone, time-consuming and expensive. We are combining the best of both worlds with a pre-configured, pre-tested integrated system for OpenStack on-premise cloud infrastructures. Validated reference architectures give customers peace of mind for guaranteed OpenStack interoperability. The PRIMEFLEX design also allows customers to start small and scale their systems on demand, with a secure and proven growth plan – and to ensure they are ready to further embrace the advantages of private and public cloud services.”

The fast track to OpenStack
OpenStack is one of the fastest-growing open source cloud management platforms. It is quickly becoming a preferred choice by enterprises, since it is cost-effective, open source, flexible and scalable. OpenStack is also specifically designed for next-generation cloud applications, making it an increasingly popular bet among enterprises as a foundation stone for future investments in cloud. With PRIMEFLEX for OpenStack, customers will easily be able to select a pre-tested system configuration which matches their needs for on-premise private cloud infrastructure, with the flexibility to fine-tune a range of settings according to specific needs, including hardware and software failover, software-defined networking and storage environments.

Based on the brand new SUSE OpenStack Cloud 7, the latest PRIMEFLEX system is comprised of a high-performance Fujitsu hardware stack, built on PRIMERGY servers and ETERNUS storage. In addition, customers gain access to comprehensive professional services including on-site deployment, and a range of optional value-add extensions. For any support requirements Fujitsu is a single-stop to solve problems, no matter whether the issue is hardware, software or network-related. All in all, PRIMEFLEX for OpenStack is a reliable and risk-free choice for the rapid provision of a highly agile, open and cost-effective private cloud environment.

Dr. Gerald Pfeifer, Vice President Products and Technology Programs at SUSE, comments: “This new edition of PRIMEFLEX for OpenStack combines enterprise-class system reliability with the production-ready agility and openness of SUSE OpenStack Cloud. The joint solution ensures customers can extend their on-premise environments by leveraging rapidly evolving, flexible and secure cloud technologies. This provides future-proof, tailored, ‘as a service’ infrastructure to enterprises as their business needs evolve.”
