Deliveroo taps into Snowflake’s cloud data warehouse

Deliveroo, a British online food delivery company, has chosen Snowflake Computing’s cloud data warehouse to support its exponential growth and expand its Deliveroo Editions offering for customers.

Deliveroo has transformed the way people think about food delivery by offering fast, transparent and reliable delivery from over 750 premium restaurants using its network of 300 freelance drivers across London. Vital to its success is the ability to quickly respond to customer demands.

By using Snowflake’s data warehouse, Deliveroo can now tap into the benefits of accessing data quickly and in real-time, while also helping to launch new restaurants in areas that are seeing a greater consumer demand.

Speaking about the announcement, Thibaut Ceyrolle, VP of EMEA Sales at Snowflake said: “Deliveroo came to us looking to refresh its existing data warehouse and find a solution that could effectively respond to customer demands. With the high level of growth Deliveroo was experiencing, including expanding operations to other regions, it was crucial that the company could access data in seconds rather than hours or even days.”

Deliveroo grew by 650% in 2016, and expanded its business intelligence team from two employees to fourteen. As a result, the company required a new solution to support concurrent users, enabling more employees across the board to make timely business decisions.

Henry Crawford, Head of Business Intelligence at Deliveroo said: “At Deliveroo, data is baked into every aspect of the organisation, supporting over 1,500 employees. With data coming from a variety of verticals including traffic, transactions and customer behaviour, having a cloud-based data warehouse to make sense of all this data and centralise this in an agile manner has been incredibly important.”

Henry continued: “Having instant access to this data has allowed us to see which areas are experiencing a shortage of restaurants and particular cuisines, and create these hubs right at the doorstep of consumers through our Deliveroo Editions offering. The shift to Snowflake’s data warehouse has enabled us to make good on our promise that got Deliveroo started: to connect consumers with great food from great restaurants, wherever you are, and whatever it takes.”
