European SMEs voice growing concerns over data hosting

Businesses are increasingly scrutinising their data hosting choices due to trust and regulatory needs.

Today, team.blue unveiled its first report examining small and medium-sized enterprises’ (SMEs) perspectives on data hosting across Europe. This document, titled "Data Hosting In Europe: Insights & Shift," presents exclusive insights into European businesses' data hosting practices, evolving trust levels, and the factors influencing decisions in an ever-changing digital landscape.

The report reveals that more than half of respondents (57%) aren't aware if their cloud provider ensures data storage within EU borders. Nonetheless, 51% noted an uptick in stakeholder interest regarding data storage locations, with customers and company directors expressing the most concern. A substantial majority (72%) of SMEs voiced worries about their data being stored in the U.S., and almost a quarter (21%) contemplate switching providers due to geopolitical and economic anxieties.

The report encompasses various businesses, including many customers of team.blue. Currently, 32.1% of surveyed companies store data with team.blue, followed by Google Cloud (13.2%) and Microsoft Azure (13%). However, a segment of SMEs across Europe struggles with digital infrastructure gaps, with 13% self-managing solutions and 6% uncertain or deprived of proper data storage facilities.

These findings arise when SMEs increasingly seek to streamline their digital operations within integrated ecosystems instead of fragmented tools. Team.blue offers a comprehensive tech stack, with services ranging from domains and hosting to productivity tools, security, and e-commerce infrastructure.

Kwaku Yeboah-Antwi, Chief AI and Data Officer at team.blue, emphasizes, “The data tells a clear story: European businesses - and their customers - are increasingly concerned about where their data resides. This isn’t just a technical issue anymore; it’s a matter of trust, and long-term resilience. ”

Claudio Corbetta, CEO at team.blue, comments,“European businesses are placing growing importance on where their data lives - and who they trust with it. It’s no longer just about performance or price; it's about control, compliance and confidence.
