London-based network infrastructure expert, OryxAlign, has been tasked with delivering a comprehensive converged network system for the revitalisation project of a significant building in London’s Waterloo district. This network will underpin crucial landlord-controlled systems, forming the backbone of the reimagined 1–5 Lower Marsh — a once mixed-use property now poised to become a modern workspace within a historic conservation area.

Tasked with implementing a sophisticated network system, OryxAlign's remit encompasses access control, CCTV, intruder alerts, intercoms, lift operations, alongside energy and building management systems. This initiative is part of an expansive retrofit to contemporise the building's infrastructure, with OryxAlign at the helm of design finalisation and integration.

Scheduled for completion within a two-month window, the project necessitates meticulous alignment with the broader project team. Legacy building constraints require the team to ingeniously adapt the network layout, ensuring it meets performance and resilience criteria within a limited and technically challenging space.

Stuart Miller, Data Centre and Construction Lead at OryxAlign, remarks on the unique conditions retrofit projects encounter, noting that the result is a digital ecosystem within a framework not originally intended for such technological integration. Utilising a converged network approach permits centralised management and optimal utilisation of physical resources, augmenting the building's long-range adaptability.

By amalgamating core services into a singular infrastructure, the system mitigates hardware needs and engenders a streamlined architecture promoting secure, scalable connectivity. As opposed to distinct systems catered for each service, this integrated platform facilitates simplified configurations and assured resilience while curbing costs.

This venture typifies a burgeoning trend in digital infrastructure strategy within intricate urban retrofits. In buildings navigating structural transformations, involving IT experts at an early stage informs infrastructure planning, culminating in heightened operational proficiency and sustained tenant versatility.
