Vantage Data Centers expands hub with second Milan campus

Vantage Data Centers enhances its Italian presence with a second Milan campus, advancing digital infrastructure investment and boosting local job creation.

Vantage Data Centers, a leader in hyperscale data center campuses, has announced an expansion of its Italian operations by establishing a second campus in Milan. With a financial commitment exceeding €350 million, the new MXP2 facility is set to cater to the escalating demands of high-performance digital infrastructure.

The MXP2 campus, strategically located in Castelletto, just 15 kilometers from central Milan, will house two state-of-the-art data centers delivering a combined 32MW of critical IT capacity. The development spreads across approximately 10,000 square meters and is projected to become operational in spring 2026.

The expansion into Greater Milan is a calculated move by Vantage Data Centers. "Expanding our Italian footprint in Greater Milan marks a strategic move for Vantage," noted David Howson, president, EMEA. "Milan's extensive fibre network and position along major terrestrial backbones provide low-latency connectivity to key European hubs, including Zurich, Frankfurt and Munich". This makes Milan an attractive focal point for hyperscale growth.

Vantage's initial Italian venture with the MXP1 campus paved the way for ongoing regional investment. With the establishment of MXP2, the company fortifies its promise of delivering world-class sustainable data centre solutions that foster cloud and AI technologies.

Vantage’s ambitious development plans have earned national significance. The Italian Government recognised these under Article 13 of Decree Law 104/2023, classifying them as strategic infrastructure investments pivotal to boosting the economy. This program anticipates approximately €4 billion in investments from Vantage, with plans to create an estimated 4,000 construction jobs and 250 permanent positions over eight years.

As highlighted by the Italian Council of Ministers, Vantage’s trajectory aligns with the public interest by supporting innovation, economic growth, and digital resilience across Europe. Their investments promise long-term regional impact through improved infrastructure, energy networks, and advanced connectivity services.

With a core focus on sustainability, MXP2 incorporates seven nature-based solutions to manage stormwater effectively and enhance the local ecosystem. Through vertical greenery, rain gardens, and permeable surfaces, Vantage demonstrates commitment to ecological preservation.

With both MXP1 and MXP2, Vantage Data Centers will offer 96MW of IT capacity, supporting today's tech giants while contributing positively to Italy's digital transformation and economic ecosystem.
