Sophos launches workspace protection for hybrid work

Sophos introduces Workspace Protection, providing security for hybrid work environments and managing users and data across different platforms.

Sophos has launched the Sophos Workspace Protection, aiming to strengthen security for organisations embracing hybrid work models. This addition expands Sophos' portfolio, providing a mechanism to govern and secure the usage of emerging technologies, including AI, within the workplace.

Traditional security approaches often rely on deploying multiple cloud-delivered Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) and Security Service Edge (SSE) solutions. These methods require significant infrastructure and expertise, potentially increasing costs while leaving gaps where modern work activities occur.

Sophos Workspace Protection aims to offer a simplified, streamlined solution by securing the workspace directly. This reduces the need for backhauling traffic through centralised infrastructure, thus easing operational burdens. The protection dynamically follows users and their data across different work environments, minimising complexity while enhancing security.

Central to this new protection strategy is the Sophos Protected Browser, powered by Island. With 85% of work now taking place in web browsers, this tool is designed to meet security needs head-on, right where work occurs.

The protected browser integrates with the Sophos Central platform, granting organisations visibility and control at the workspace level. It aims to help safeguard sensitive data, manage application access, and enforce policy without disrupting productivity. This browser-centric approach is designed to support corporate and remote activities.

As tools like AI become embedded in everyday workflows, the potential risks associated with Shadow IT and Shadow AI emerge. Many employees now use AI at work without formal policies, increasing potential security threats. Sophos Workspace Protection seeks to offer visibility and risk assessment capabilities at the workspace level, allowing organisations to enforce policies and govern emerging technology safely.

  • Sophos Protected Browser: A secure browser powered by Island, offering controls over application usage and web filtering, integrating with ZTNA for remote administration access.
  • Sophos ZTNA (Zero Trust Network Access): Allows secured, posture-based access to private applications by authorising only compliant devices.

  • Email Monitoring System: Enhances email service security by detecting potential phishing and malicious activities.

Together, these components aim to support organisations in managing modern, hybrid work environments, helping provide a cohesive workspace while minimising disruption to productivity.
